Stephen Sloan Terrorism Studies Fellow
Clayton Besaw is the Stephen Sloan Terrorism Studies Fellow for the Global Perspectives Office. A graduate of UCF, he is now pursuing graduate studies in Political Science. Besaw is a member of the Political Science Graduate Student Association and participates in the Political Ecology Lab. His research interests include political violence, psychology and quantitative methodology. Upon graduation, Besaw plans to pursue a PhD in Political Science. Fluent in German and conversational in Dutch and Spanish, he has traveled to Canada, Japan, Mexico, Colombia and throughout Europe.
Isle of Man Small Countries Fellow
Salvio Illiano is the Isle of Man Small Countries Fellow for the Global Perspectives Office. A senior at UCF, he is double-majoring in International and Global Studies and French. He currently serves as president of the UCF chapter of the French National Honor Society. His research interests include Middle Eastern politics and foreign literature. Upon graduation, he plans to study intensive Arabic at the Università Orientale di Napoli. He has traveled to southern Europe and is fluent in Italian, French and Spanish and is currently studying Arabic.
Lucien Charland is the India Fellow for the Global Perspectives Office, under the auspices of The India Center. A Senior at UCF, he is triple-majoring in International Relations, Economics and Spanish. A National Merit Scholar, Charland is on the University Honors Committee, is the Civic Intern for Environmental Programs, is a LEAD Scholar and is currently writing an Honors in the Major thesis. His research interests include social movements, security studies and the environment. Upon graduation, he plans to pursue graduate studies in security studies. He is fluent in Spanish, has studied Latin and is currently studying Urdu. Charland has traveled to Canada and Turkey, and throughout Europe and Latin America.
Brandon Kelley is the Diplomacy Fellow for the Global Perspectives Office. He is a graduate student pursuing an M.A. in Political Science/International Studies at the University of Central Florida. He earned a B.S. in Exercise Science from West Florida in 2007, and joined the U.S. Army after graduating. Kelley served as a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, with a deployment to Baghdad, Iraq from 2008-2009 as a political, counter-terrorism, and targeting analyst. His areas of research include national and international security, warfare, terrorism and leader behavior. Kelley has traveled throughout Europe, the Middle East and the Caribbean.
Christine Comfort is the Lawrence J. Chastang Global Fellow for the Global Perspectives Office. She is a Senior at the University of Central Florida majoring in International and Global Studies with minors in European Studies and Physics. She is a student of the Burnett Honors College, with research interests in women’s rights and role in the world, the asteroid JU3 and inner-belt asteroid family research. Upon graduation, Comfort plans on joining the Peace Corps and then pursuing graduate studies. Having lived in Florence, she speaks conversational Italian, and plans to study German and Arabic. Comfort has traveled throughout North and South America, the Caribbean and Europe.
Prince Mohammad Bin Fahd Fellow
William George is the Prince Mohammad Bin Fahd Fellow for the Global Perspectives Office under the auspices of the Prince Mohammad Bin Fahd Program for Strategic Research and Studies at UCF. He is pursuing a graduate degree at UCF in Political Science-International Studies. As an undergraduate at UCF, he majored in History and minored in Political Science. George is a founding father of the Sigma Pi Fraternity, and is a member of Delta Epsilon Iota and the Academic Honor Society. His research interests include terrorism studies, security studies and political psychology. In the future, George would like to work in the intelligence community. His travels include Mexico, the Bahamas and Jamaica. He is studying Portuguese and has traveled to Brazil.
