Leadership Institute

The Art and Science of Diversity

The Leadership Institute is the signature, annual event of UCF’s Leadership Empowerment Program (LEP). The LEP Class of 2018 invite you to an engaging morning of speakers and performances celebrating the Art and Science of Diversity. Dr. Fernando Uribe-Romo will discuss his personal scientific journey, share his passion for student empowerment, and explain his emerging work in materials chemistry. Dr. Saleh Rahman and Dr. Anya Andrews will perform a unique tabla/piano duet. Ms. Wanda Raiumdi-Ortiz will share her artwork while discussing her approach to exposing students to more diverse artists and their works in the classroom.

Time: 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Contemporary Kurdish Politics in the Middle East

This lecture features Amberin Zaman, a columnist for Al-Monitor’s Turkey Pulse who has covered Turkey, the Kurds and Armenia for The Washington Post, The Daily TelegraphThe Los Angeles Times and the Voice of America. She served as The Economist‘s Turkey correspondent between 1999 and 2016. She was also a Public Policy Scholar at the Woodrow Wilson Center for International Scholars in Washington D.C. from January 2016 to May 2017.
