Isle of Man Small Countries Fellow
Lucien Charland is the Isle of Man Small Countries Fellow. A Senior at UCF, he is double-majoring in International and Global Studies and Spanish, with a minor in Finance. He is a on the University Honors Committee, a National Scholars Mentor and a member of LEAD Scholars. His research interests include social media, social environmentalism, politics and history. Upon graduation, he plans to pursue graduate and law degrees. He is fluent in Spanish, has studied Latin and is currently studying Mandarin. Charland has traveled to Canada and Turkey, and throughout Europe and Latin America.
Stephen Sloan Terrorism Studies Fellow
William George is the Stephen Sloan Terrorism Studies Fellow for the Global Perspectives Office. He is pursuing a graduate degree at UCF in Political Science-International Studies. As an undergraduate at UCF, he majored in History and minored in Political Science. George is a founding father of the Sigma Pi Fraternity, and is a member of Delta Epsilon Iota and the Academic Honor Society. His research interests include terrorism studies, security studies and political psychology. In the future, George would like to work in the intelligence community. His travels include Mexico, the Bahamas and Jamaica. He is studying Portuguese and plans to travel to Brazil.
Milica Minic is the India Fellow for the Global Perspectives Office. She is a Junior majoring in International and Global Studies with a minor in French at the University of Central Florida. She is a member of the United Nations Association and the Orthodox Christian Fellowship. In addition to her major, her research interests are human rights, globalization, the Balkans, India’s development and Indigenous people. She plans to study Global Human Development or Human Rights Law in graduate school and eventually work for an NGO. She is fluent in Serbian and has conversational French skills. She has traveled to London and Serbia.
Nicolas Oscheneek is the Diplomacy Fellow for the Global Perspectives Office. He is a Senior at the University of Central Florida majoring in Political Science with a minor in Economic Policy. He previously interned at the U.S. Embassy in Lisbon, Portugal, as well as a civil law firm in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Currently he is an active member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity and the National Youth Leadership Forum on Law and Politics. In addition to his major, his research interests include international law, inequality in developing countries and globalization studies. Nick plans to pursue a master’s degree in International Affairs. He is fluent in Portuguese and Spanish and currently studying French. Oscheneek has traveled to Brazil, Mexico, Jamaica, Canada, Costa Rica, Portugal, Spain and Morocco.
Lawrence J. Chastang Global Fellow
Vanessa Zabala is the Lawrence J. Chastang Global Fellow for the Global Perspectives Office. She is a Senior at the University of Central Florida pursuing a B.A. in International and Global Studies with a minor in Economics. Zabala is a UCF Water Polo player and a member of the United Nations Association. Previously, she interned for the Department of State in the Economic and Political section of the U.S. Embassy in Santiago, Chile. Zabala is very interested in economic development. As a Native Venezuelan, she speaks fluent Spanish and conversational French. Zabala has traveled throughout Europe, the Western Hemisphere and India.
